Oh, three or four days...

Shawn's follow-up appointment to his surgery was yesterday. First, let me remind you that after the surgery, we saw no one. A nurse came in and said, "The surgeon says you can bend your knee as much as you can tolerate, and you can put weight on it, as much as you can tolerate. You'll start to feel better in oh, three or four days."

Shawn hasn't been able to tolerate anything.

He's been going to work. Monday was his first full day; he was bound and determined. He came home with entire leg swollen from the knee to toe. And it looked pretty ridiculous considering that his entire leg from knee to thigh has lost about one fourth of its mass.

It seems Shawn had suffered a bit of atrophy.

The doctor Shawn saw yesterday was a new face. Not a surprise at Scott & White hospital. He told Shawn that apparently he messed up his knee pretty badly.

Besides dislocating his knee and ripping some cartilage, a small piece of bone, a little smaller than the size of a dime was removed in surgery--it was fractured since the day he hurt his knee, two weeks prior to the surgery. The bone was taken from what is considered to be the knuckle part of the knee.

Ah ha! The truth comes out. I told you he wasn't being a baby! So, what did the doctor say?

Keep it flat, straight, and iced. For about "oh, three or four days". So he was admonished for going to work, told not to go back for the rest of the week and to do these strange exercises on his leg. He was told, the more he goes to work, the more damage he'll do.

It wasn't exactly what he wanted to hear at this point.

Wow! That stinks. I say tie him to the bed until he gets better. Men may not be babies but they sure are stubborn!
