Ok, so I went in expecting a little Bad Santa. I thought Billy Bob Thornton did an awesome job as Buttermaker, however I was a little disappointed. I think Walter Matthau was a bit more true to the character, taking the boozing and I-could-care-less-attitude to the extreme.
The remake is almost IDENTICAL to the original, and of course, I went in hoping small changes would be made, expecting a bit more. Instead of a pool man, Buttermaker is a rat cleaner of basements and so on.
Although I laughed a couple times, I didn't laugh nearly as much as with the 1976 original. I don't care how many Sunday afternoons you spent half-paying attention to the overly rerun movie on TV, it's still a classic and always will be.
The remake doesn't hardly compare.

I never even saw the remake because I don't like Billy Bob. He's a nasty weirdo...in my opinion. ;o)
