Eggs Frying on Sidewalks--But Let the Kids Play

As mother and daughter met up at home after a long day of school and work, mom notices that her child has flesh hanging from her hands!

Yes, this is the American dream, folks. To know that you can safely send your child to school and that they are placed in well-intended hands. To know that if your child is injured, you would be the first to know.

Maybe in the sixties.

During recess, children were let outside to play in 108 degree weather. Why were they outside when it was so hot? Because your tax dollars are at work!

A small girl received 2nd degree burns on her hands after touching a hot metal surface on playground equipment.

The school failed to notify anyone. They rubbed some Neosporin on the girl's hands and that's about it.

As soon as the mother of this child saw the flaps of skin hanging off her hands, she rushed her daughter to the emergency room for some...extended care.

Does a small child need to go the emergency room if he or she has a burn so bad that flaps of skin are falling off? I'd say so.

Does a parent need to be notified in case of such a disaster? I'd say so, yes.

Apparently it wasn't in the school's budget to do either within the fiscal year. If I were the mother of that girl, I'd sue the school quickly and harshly. Not for the money or anything I might receive in return. But for the simple fact that an example needs to be set for those teachers and administrators who simply cannot or either refuse to care for your child while he or she is in their care!

Once again, this is what our tax dollars go to. I'd like to think that our taxes being raised each year might provide some education for teachers. Such as:

What to do in an Emergency: Understanding when to just put on a Band-Aid and call it a day

When NOT to let the children outside for recess: The process of frying an egg on the sidewalk

Should I call the parents? When mopping up blood and vomit just isn't enough

And this why first year teachers make more than twice what I earn, then complain about it?
