There Goes the Neighborhood

I'm almost dreading tommorow because of the fireworks display two blocks from our house. Doesn't make since when there's a burn ban it's illegal to have even sparklers in your private yard. (you could be fined for even the small stuff)

I heard the city of Waco posted signs on all the fireworks stands. They made it totally illegal to use, carry, or display fireworks within so many miles of city limits. If you are just passing through the city and stopped, your car may be searched. If you purchase fireworks and are suspected of living in Waco, you may be fined (I'm told someone will be watching the stnads, but I haven't seen anything)

All in all, you could be fined up to $6,000. Of course, most of this is probably just to scare people. However--most people around here ("here" being a very broad area) knows someone in a rural area or lakeside area where fireworks may be safely used. How many people buy the fireworks to take to a friend's house even though they live in Waco?

And how about just passing through the city? I mean, COME ON! A vehicle just by itself is practically a bomb on wheels with full tank of gas. What more could come from fireworks? A pretty display on the highway.

This affects me in no way at all since we live an hour away from Waco and never waste our money on the junk since OUR city shoots off huge shells 2 blocks away from our house. Did I happen to mention it's 2 blocks away from our 2 year old roof and dry dead lawn?

I just think it's stupid, that's all.
