I must say that I am quite ready for my week of vacation. I'm getting burned out and the saddest part of it is, I'll surely be the last to put in for vacation this summer. Shawn is on a rotating on-call schedule so we have to wait for the new schedule to come out so we'll know exactly which weeks he'll be on-call this summer.
That being said, I still have to schedule around my time of the month because there's no way I'm gonna be off from work and be miserable with cramps. And on top of that, since we have to wait for Shawn's schedule, I'll have to work around all my coworkers. So, it probably won't be till late August this year. Sigh.
Good grief, I sure hope I win the lottery this year. The owners can keep their $100 vacation pay (yes, $100) and we can rent an RV and take off for Disney World.
Disgruntled? Me? No, I wouldn't quite say I'm disgruntled. I don't even work for the post office! However, it's just one of those things where it's the same every day, same people, same poo poo stains on the same pants (I'm a dry cleaner) so.... I just wish I could work for myself already.
OK, so I've said before that I don't talk about work because I'm afraid who has this web address, who's reading, and I'm afraid of well, getting fired in general. HA HA!! However, I thought the following would be safe enough to share and I'm sure you'll get a giggle out of it.
A couple of weeks ago we held a meeting (a long meeting) about the new break times, fair treatment, new rules, etc, blah, blah, blah. Here's an excerpt I'm still laughing over:
My own smart aleck comment will be shown in brackets...[I need a vacation!]
STANDARD OPERATING PROCEDURES AND WORK RULES
INSURANCE BENEFITS
Retirement benefits for our employees are covered by the Social Security Act. When an employee reaches retirement age, The Employer, at its option, retires such an employee [but they don't exercise it] and the employee will be eligible for the benefits then available through Social Security. For these Social Security benefits, the employer and the employee are both contributing to the Social Security Administration the amount stipulated by Federal Administration. The employer makes such deductions from your paycheck each week and matches your deductions with funds of its own. [Just for me? Wow! Thanks!] Therefore, upon reaching the lawful retirement age, you will have the security made available by this program. [which will be long gone by the time I'm even 50 years old]
Yes, I knew the company didn't offer a 401K or anything like that when I was hired. I knew that. Everyone knew that. Couldn't we have just put the following in the manual: "The employer does not currently offer any retirement packages or benefits"
I mean, don't make it sound like you're doing me any favors by obeying the law! Oh, gee whiz, I sure am grateful that everyone's contibuting into the Social Security fund. Golly gee, I sure hope there's some "security" left by the time I'm 83, because that's what the retirement age will be by the time I get there.
Security? HA! Now, I know many countries do not even have Social Security. What eats my lunch is that I'm paying into Social Security with every penny I make, yet there will be nothing for me when I retire! Consider this: If you're working, you're paying on the Social Security being used right now. When you get to retirement age, who's gonna pay for your Social Security? No one, that's who. Because millions and millions of illegal aliens will have been granted amnesty by then. Did they pay into Social Security? No! AND, how many people will be on food stamps, housing, and other programs by then?
Also something to consider: Did you know that your Social Security checks are taxed? Isn't that like double taxing? Like paying taxes on an inheritance that already had taxes paid on it while the will writer was making the money in the first place???
The older you are when you retire, the bigger your Social Security check. Why? Because that's more money the government gets to take from your working paycheck. And the more money you earn, the more money that's available for those currently on "security".
So, please. Don't pretend to do me any favors because you're obeying the current tax laws. Don't act like your contributing into Social Security is all for little 'ol me and my personal benefit. If only we could all sound so glorious for avoiding an audit.
