MyPoints and NetFlix

I don't use MyPoints really unless it's a service I'm gonna use anyway. For example, they give 2 points for every dollar spent on eBay (and 4 points on Circuit City). Naturally, we do a lot of business on eBay so we rack up points pretty quickly. 3750 points gets you $25 gift card to Wal-Mart and so on. Since we shop eBay either way, it's a nice way to be able to splurge on Christmas gifts.

Our video rental store moved a couple years ago and it just got to be way too inconvenient for me, so we just stopped renting. I shopped around and discovered that renting a new release DVD often costs a little over $4 after tax.

I checked out the Blockbuster rental-by-mail thing and NetFlix. NetFlix offered the best deal. With Shawn being out of work we have to prepare that we might not have much money to do much of anything. Not that we actually go anywhere, but renting movies might break him from the PSP for a couple hours.

So for $8.99 a month (the cheapest plan; and 2 weeks free trial) we got:
Unlimited rentals at one at a time
9 hours instant movie hours on the computer

Not sure how comfortable it will be to watch movies at the desk, but it's there if we want it. And I got 1000 points to boot for signing up through MyPoints. That's practically $5 towards a Wal-Mart card. Or a meal at Chili's. Or mmmmmm...a Strawberry Frapachino at Starbucks.

Starbucks....Mmmmmmm

I'm not being paid to advertise NetFlix or anything, but I scare easily when it comes to internet purchases and services. I'll update you guys and let you know who it works out. For starters, filling out the queue was fun. "It's like I'm shopping!" I squealed with delight. I was reminded of about ten movies I missed.
Shawn: "Get TMNT!!! The NEW ONE!!!"

Yes, dear. Of course, dear.

I'm heavily leaning towards Netflix too. It scares me a little that no matter what it'll subtract that set amount from my account each month, but at the same time... we go out to movies so often that this has got to be cheaper over all. We easily spend at least $18 at the theater each month... why not save a little and get a few more movies? Thanks for the info. Hope it works out for you both!

Your post reminded me that I won $25 from drinking Mt Dew. I've never been so excited. Think I'll blog about it now....the labels at the bottom of my post are easily made. Just type in keywords in the small box under the box where you type your post. good luck

Netflix is awesome. You're going to love it! I get inexplicably excited every time I receive a new DVD in the mail. It's like Christmas in August.

I don't have a MySpace account, so I don't know how to use it. I'm sorry that I can't help you out there!

Facebook is similar in principle -- you type in the names of people you know and look at their individual pages. It's super fun and very addictive.

I prefer Netflix on Mypoints as well although I have just joined a brand new similar program called Points2shop.com

Already received 2 Amazon gift cards from them :-))
