Look, I am just as paranoid as the next person, and by no means have I ever claimed to be a scientist, or even really all that smart but...
Do you really think a paper towel is going to prevent the germs from spreading to your hand? What, like the germs can't simply jump over the towel? Ha ha! If that were the case, Bio Hazard suits would be made from Bounty paper towels (the better-picker-upper). And what do you do with the towel once you're outside the restroom? Now you've got to walk around the mall looking for a garbage can that doesn't require you to touch the lid.
