Apparently the city employees needed 3% raises (about a quarter for every 8 bucks). So guess what?
Taxes are going up!
Yep, as they every year. And you'll notice a trend here. See my posts about the reconstruction of the high school football field and trash collection and you'll see what I mean. The city has proposed a budget of over 84 million to run this little podnk town!
Why? Because the city workers all needed brand-spankin' new trucks--that's why!
Water and trash are going up as are our home owner's taxes--as they always do--every freakin' year!!
So here's the deal with curb side garbage collection. I'm sure you'll get a good laugh outta this one.
The city is now divided into 8 "zones". Each zone will have 2 pick-ups per month. For example: our zone will have curb-side brush collection on the 1st and 3rd Friday of the month. Here are some reasons why this is the dumbest thing EVER.
1. Brush piles must be free of all other trash, bulky items, bags or boxes as they are all handled seperately. (so what if they are not seperate, are they gonna charge me for it?)
2. We will pick up 6 cubic yards of brush per collection. Any amount over 6 cubic yards will be charged for. (are the truck drivers actually measureing the garbage piles?)
3. And, yes our water bill flier actually says this. I'm not making this stuff up.
Small amounts (a handful or two) can be disposed of in your grabage container.
Well, duh.
4. Items placed out on the curb on non collection days will be considered "out of cycle" and you will be charged. A special pick up may be requested for a fee.
5. Items placed within 8 feet of the curb is a request for service and gives the city permission to pick the items and charge accordingly.
6. Regular collections DO NOT include remodeling, demolition, building, roofing, or any other hazerdous material. Such items placed at the curb at ANY time will be considered a request for pick and you will be charged.
It's like a bad running gag. CHARGED, FEES, ETC. It's a darn good thing we had our roof done a couple years ago and that we can't afford to remodel, because otherwise we might get CHARGED a FEE.
The city actually has employeed several to drive around all over the city to see if trash or brush is on the curb on an out of cycle day so that they may charge you. But, don't you think it's costs MORE to pay people to do this and gas, oil changes, etc????
Is it actually gonna hurt anyone if my tree limbs are sitting on the curb for a week?
And that's a whole other story! We'd have to do our work on a Saturday, like most red blooded Americans, drag the trash next to the house (a BIG fire hazard), then wait till the 1st or 3rd Thursday night after a hard day's work and drag the trash to the curb.
I told Shawn I'm gonna have garbage out there EVERY SINGLE 1st and 3rd Firday just for spite. Make those guys earn that 3% raise!!
