Independence Day

Know what I'm thankful for? The day off. The freedom from work on a bloomin' Tuesday. The freedom to drive around for 45 minuets looking for something to eat.

Well, it's a long story.

Shawn's been doing a lot of work for his mom so over the weekend she treated him to a burger at this little cafe near her house. It's one those little holes in the wall that offer the best food, biggest plates, with tiny prices. Shawn swears up and down you can get five pounds of fries for two bucks. (though I think he may be exaggerating)

Shawn wanted to go there for lunch today, even though I planned on cooking. "Do you really feel like cooking?" he asked.

"No," I answered. (I am easily influenced when it comes to getting out of cooking supper)

So we drove all the way out to the cafe and lo and behold, they were closed for the holiday. I suggested the cafe near our own house, which offers similar fare.

"Uh uh," Shawn said. "You can't get a burger this big anywhere else for four dollars!"

But we agreed to plan B and lo and behold the cafe was closed. So I just started driving as we argued about what to get. Shawn had his heart set on a good burger.

"If I can't get a good burger, then I want a cheap burger!" he suggested McDonald's.

"Ew!" I said. "I hate McDonald's! You can't even get bacon on your burger!"

So he suggested Wendy's. Our last experience there was horrible but Shawn said, "You can get bacon on your burger."

So onto plan C or D or whatever we're up to now as we headed to Wendy's and passed Whataburger.

"OOOOHH!" I exclaimed. "We haven't eaten there in years!"

So we made the block and went to Whataburger--now Plan F, I guess. When we got home with our food, we realized they'd given us an extra order of a burger (with everything on it--yuck) and fries. But as Shawn said,
"Cool! We got free food!"

Shawn ate his giant burger and fries, I my burger loaded with bacon and fries. It was all so good I decided to munch on the free fries.

"Do those taste better than the ones we paid for?" Shawn asked.
"You betcha!"

Yeah, it took 45 minuets in all, but at least we got a good burger in the end. What the heck, it's Independance Day! Free speech! Free Religon! Free food!
