Freedom of Speech, Freedom to Apologize

I'm not too clear on these stories since I only heard snipits of them; clarify me if I'm wrong.

I heard a girl in the middle of her Valedictorian speech when school officials suddenly cut off her microphone. Why, you may ask?

She thanked God.

That's freedom of speech?

Another chick was denied her dipola for a smiliar instance. School officials refused her diploma until she apologized by email or mail to each parent of a student in attendance at the coorination.

Hey, as far as I am concerned this chick put in her four years just like everyone else. She didn't moon the school. She didn't set off fireworks.

When did God become the enemy? Doesn't freedom of speech gives Americans to thank God, Allah, Zues, or whomever they want to?

Some %@#* democracy.
