There Must be Something in the Milk

You may or may not have heard in recent news that a young school teacher slept with one of her young students. No, I'm not speaking of Mary Kay Laterneau, this is yet another one. And by slept, I don't mean they had a slumber party and braided each other's hair.

There's gotta be somthing in those milk cartons they're passing around in the public school systems. I didn't find 13 year old boys attractive when I was 13 years old myself. I mean, at 13 is all the plumbing even complete?

Well, I guess so, 'cause that Mary Kay went and got herself very pregnant by her student.

The latest school teacher is a very hot blonde and got six months probation for her crime of statutory rape of a minor.

SIX MONTHS PROBATION!

I'm glad I don't have kids, because I'd be terrified to send them school. Luckily all my nieces and nephews have old crusty teachers, so there's not too much to worry about there.

Or is there?

To compare:

Under the California 3 strikes law, a man was sentenced to 300 years to life. 300 years? Why do they even bother? Do they actually expect anyone to live that long? Don't get me started. I suppose it's good our life expectantcy is about 83 years because us tax payers could never keep up with a 268 year old inmate. Just kill 'im and save our money!

Ok, now seriously, this guy was sentenced for that much time for stealing, robbing and burglery. He didn't hurt anyone, that I know of, just got caught under the 3 strikes law. (In case you didn't know, the 3 strikes law is exactly what is sounds like. Get caught commiting a minor "insignificant" crime on the 3rd time--go to jail for an insanely amount of time)

Now, on the flip side, another man had molested a two year old. Ew.

So, the guy in jail for 300 to life, somehow got a hold of photos of the molester in action and turned them in to the proper authorities. The argument was whether or not the theif should get lienency for his good deed, but that's another story for another time.

Ok, so the molester was convicted and sentenced for 30 years.

thirty years seems so tiny compared to 300 to Life

Personally, I think if the thief stole something every day of his life from the time he was born till the day he died, he is a somewhat better person than the child molester.

I'm not saying the thief shouldn't be punished for his crime--don't get me wrong on that at all. I'm just saying that there ought to be some sort of standard.

The thief, who is the more likely to reform will be sitting in his cell while the molester will be out in ten years. Child molesters have like an 83% rate of committing their crime again.

I'm not proposing that we free the thief--he knew the consequences of his actions. But do ya think we could place the rapists and the molesters and the murderers behind bars a little bit longer?

I'm just sayin'....
