In Local News

A couple weeks ago Shawn told me there was a surplus of city taxes. The local high school was going to get a JumboTron to make good use of the money.

???!!! "Why don't they open a savings account if there's money left over?" I asked in astonishment. "They need to get one of those financial planners you see on TV. They do everything for you--they go over every dollar you make, where it's going and help you decide if you can put a little extra on that credit card bill or whatever..."

So I thought it was just a rumor until i saw today's paper:

"The contract for the new scoreboard at Wildcat Stadium is signed and manufacturing is under way."

Total price? A staggering $372,665
Yeah, on a local high school football team. And here we are, just stipidly paying taxes for our schools when we don't even have any kids!

The paper said, "The school district plans to pay for the scroeboard and new artificial turf with revenue bonds, which will be paid off over a period of 7 or 8 years with profits from hosting playoff games."

Oh, and also, a third party scoreboard operator will be brought in until personnel can be trained to work the computers. Available advertisement space on the new scoreboard may generate as much as $72,000 per year if all the slots are leased.

Will La Ti Freakin' Da!

This is OUR tax dollars, ladies and gentlemen. In a city of about 60,000 or so, this is what they do with our money. (And it's not like the high school football team is the greatest team in the world)

We gotta figure out a way to scrape something together so we can move outta city limits. And pronto! They may want to put a JumboTron in the elementary school baseball field!
