God versus The Media

DING DING DING! And in our right corner in the blue trunks....

In Entertainment Weekly (currently on newstands as of today) there is a ranking of the most 25 controversial films.

So far. Don't expect things to be getting any better, people.

Shawn told me it was on the news earlier and before I logged on, there it was on Yahoo! News. Coming in at number 13 is The Da Vinci Code and who coulda thought of that? Ok, it's just a fictional story, I know. It's not the kinda story I wanna hear. If they put out a movie about a fictional story about my dad being a murderous child rapist, I wouldn't want to see that either.

So it's not exactly the same thing. HoweverI also consider God my Father. I hate to see anything considered "just a story" put out there about Him.

Coming in at number 16 was United 93 the film based on the true events of the infamous Flight 93 on 9/11. Why is it so edgy? Because it was made only a few years after 9/11. We were going to see it but our theater played it for only 3 weeks and we never got the chance. Although now we can place our $15 towards the DVD and watch it as much as we want in the comfort of our own home. I think it's a fair trade. Though I'll miss that artificial butter flavoring...

Coming in at number one as the most controversial film of all time (or so far) is The Passion of the Christ directed, written, filmed, produced--ok we get it--by Mel Gibson.

This movie was apparetly ranked as number one for its gratuitous gore and blood.

If you've never seen the film, I'd like to mention that is not a single boob or curse word in the ENTIRE film. Now, that's controversial.

Ok, so I do believe with everything in me that it's a true story, that God's work was at hand in the making of this film. You could never fully realize what Christ went through until you saw this film (unless you had just a really SUPER imagination). I saw it once in the theater and never again (because it hurt to watch). Although, my mom gave us a DVD of it and a deadcon church suggested that you ought to watch it every week to remind yourself what He did for you.

That's what is considered controversy in this country today. If they do a ranking of the most controversial books of all time, will we see the Book?

As in, The Good Book, as in the Holy Bible? Frankly, the way this world is going, it wouldn't surprise me too much. But don't expect me to keep my mouth closed about it.

As I close, I'd like to point out that Passion has grossed over $370 million dollars worldwide. And still going. While other controversial films struck a wave of copycat crimes, Passion prompted criminals to turn themselves in. (true story)

Love to hear you're comments on this subject--I'll post them in a future post along with my arguments. Mom always thought I was going to be a lawyer because I love to argue so much...

I hate lawyers though. They're probably the ones to come up with polls and lists.
