I was watching Glenn Beck yesterday on CNN (6pm, 8pm, 11pm Cental time). Don't blame me, Shawn the politics/news addict got me hooked. I must admit since I started my job, I've quit watching the news. I read the paper occasionally, but I've pretty much given up on the news. It's not that I'm uninformed. I have Shawn to inform me of everything I need to know. Husbands are sorta good for that.
Shawn listens to talk radio all day at work and knows EVERYTHING about ANYTHING that's going on in the world. And don't you try to go arguing with him about it, either. He listen to this Glenn Beck guy on the radio and as it turns out, he got a TV show. I'll admit, I got hooked because he's funny. That always helps.
I'd always secretly wanted to be a stand-up comic though I'd never be a very successful one for my fear of flying. So anything that makes me laugh in this screwed up world is a good thing to me.
Yesterday's program took a more serious note. It was about a special on HBO called "Baghdad ER". We don't get HBO but I'm hoping for a DVD since the clips shown were what you would call "mild" and I doubt the whole thing would ever be shown on regular TV.
Anywho, the HBO special was directed and filmed by these 2 guys who stayed in a hospital in Baghdad and witnessed firsthand the amputations, the deaths, the crying and the healing. Within 30 seconds of the clips being shown, my chest tightened and my eyes welled up.
Just a few minuets of watching these guys with their injuries moved me extremely. These are young men and women who fight for nothing more than freedom for us, and for others as well. Whether you agree with what's going on, you cannot help but be moved by these people's spirits.
There's a LOT I don't agree with what Bush has done with while in administration however, isn't it always just electing the lesser of 2 evils? All that aside, I implore you to watch Glenn Beck. It's like "The Daily Show" on Comedy Central, but smarter and funnier. And also, not quite so one-sidely-liberal.
That always helps.
