I buy about one scratch off lottery ticket each month. I have repeatedly refused to do it anymore. The government takes enough of my money, why should I give them more voluntarily?
Of course, there's always that "what if?" thought in the back of your head and it's that exact same drive that makes me spend my $1. But it's the principal of the thing. All your doing is giving the state more of your money--by choice! The lucky few win big, however I've seen time and time again it's someone who doesn't really even need it.
After we got the bill for my pneumonia, I was depressed and bought a ticket for $1. I prayed silently as I grabbed a coin. "Please, God! Just 3 grand to pay off the bill. Just 3 grand!"
I looked at the ticket. The maximum prize was $1000.
I lost.

The Government Gets Enough of My Money
