To kick off this post in a more traditional manner, I'd like to start out with my old stand by:
Sarcasm.
On TV as of very recently, there's an ad for a drug called Evista for osteoporosis or something. In it, they ('they" being the outstanding commercial writers who make the drug sound wonderful despite it's 42 side effects which are worse than the actual physical problem) mention that Evista may help prevent "invasive beast cancer".
As opposed to what, invited breast cancer?
Anyway, I was surprised to see in my email a comment had been left in my blog by Mandy. Mandy must be very bored. This is my first post since April 23. I had assumed Mandy would be very busy with the new baby and all, but I haven't visited anyone's blog in months. Maybe my blog is so boring it helps Mandy relax for a nap.
No, I haven't been in the mood to write. I've got all sorts of funny stuff to share, too. And I know it's funny because either a) I didn't come up with myself, or b) people laughed about it (out loud, even) in the "real" world.
I could talk about this douche we hired at work. He was a real number who backed the van into the building and just didn't show up the next day. I could talk about how I've begun playing with video editing for real high quality music videos (some are FUNNY!) but that I also haven't touched my projects in a month.
I could tell you about how we had a nasty storm, or a couple, actually with a couple tornadoes nearby. I could also go into detail about how we were without power for almost two days and the Great Value brand ice cream on the top shelf melted while I was at work. (That was a happy little mess)
I could also tell you about how I had gotten serious diarrhea after convincing myself that the mayonnaise was still OK. I could instead, explain that part of our IRS refund will go toward replacing much of the food in our refrigerator.
Or, I could tell the story of how we got the brilliant idea to sell video games over eBay and now we're crashing and burning. Video game prices don't stay high for long and they're sort like buying a computer. A week later, it's no good and you've got to upgrade.
So I've been trying to sell the lot of it, getting what we can for last year's inventory and trying real hard to get us to breaking even on this year's inventory. Shawn is once again obsessed with our reinvention of selling. What is this now, our fifth time? Trading cards, Hero Clix, used video games, new video games, and now....Warhammer and table top games.
Shawn's mother, Marge, will be undergoing major (is there any other kind?) open heart surgery. She's got a vein that's completely blocked, another that's 90% blocked and needs a valve replaced. It's funny to think that bi pass surgery wasn't too common until indoor plumbing was. That's really the only funny part. Marge is 68 and diabetic.
Despite losing money on eBay, losing money due to a tree falling on a power line, and losing sleep after Marge's angiogram results, we both still have most of our sanity.
We'll see how long that holds out.
In closing, I would like to ask those praying members of the blogging world to simply mention Marge at your bedside. Shawn's father died suddenly of a heart attack a few years ago. Marge has always been the glue of his family. I know it's pointless to worry because it doesn't do any good worrying, but I am a control freak. This is something I cannot control. It really is all in God's hands.
