Pardon my French, but this movie kicks ass! I went in not expecting much. What I got what a roller coaster ride of laughs, adrenaline, a good old fashion dose of my childhood. Yep, I too played with Transformers, however I was never the nerdling that Shawn is.
At the age of 28, Shawn can name each and every one. In fact, we still have his toys in a box in one of the closets. And yes, every Transformer is there. (he was a very spoiled child)
The first few minuets blew me away. As the military base is attacked, the camera work is awesome. The music is passionate (think, The Rock with Connery and Cage), the writing is very good with the acting done just as well. The hyper teenager makes me laugh. His hyper parents make me laugh. The transformers make me laugh (in a good way).
The special effects are AWESOME!!! In effect, if I do say so myself, this movie was more than meets the eye. ...Groan. You know I had to say it.
The transformers are updated, but other than that, I don't think much has changed. "I don't remember that thing!" I exclaimed at one point.
"He's the radio," Shawn answered.
"No, in the cartoon...I don't remember him!"
"He was a Walkman. It contained little birds...."
"OH YEAH!! The Walkman!!"
The "Walkman" is now a CD player. Bumblebee is now a sporty Camaro (I liked the older Camaro better) The Autobots say things like, "My bad." Though fear not; nerds will not be disappointed. Non-nerds will not be disappointed because the movie plays out as though for nerds and non-nerds alike.
The plot is basic: Aliens come to Earth and fight over something; a teen is thrown into the middle of it all and the ending is set up for a possible sequel. However, don't let that basic, generic plot fool you. The Transformers have come a long way.
AND there's an Iron Man trailer on the DVD!!!! Can't wait!! This is the BEST time for comic book geeks to be alive. So much better than the old Fantastic Four movie and The Punisher movie with (ugh) Dolph Lundran. Where is old Dolph, anyway?

Sweet. I bought the movie and have yet to watch it...you know...for my son. Not for me...for my son who likes Transfo..
..who am I kidding.
Thanks for dropping by my site and leaving a comment, by the way. Much appreciated.
Today's topic includes Ex-Lax.
I watched this movie in the summer and I was blown away by it. I didn't have any expectations of it and I just couldn't believe how well it worked as a sci-fi movie, as an action movie, as a comedy, as everything really. The R2 version of the DVD will be released in December and I just can't wait to buy it!
What's the R2 version? What's that mean? (apparently I am not a super-geek as we all formerly had guessed)
Never saw it. Don't think I want to.
I thought it was okay. A few too many plot holes for me.
That's me the sci-fi action movie snob.
Don't get me started on dragon wars.
Blashpehemer!
I saw it. Loved it, loved it! And I'm 48 and I can name them all. I even knew that the voice of Optimus Prime was the original guy from the cartoon.
