In case you've been living in a cave...
About 4 or 5 years ago, Andrea Yates intentionally drowned all five of her children ages 6 months to 5 or 7 years--I forget and I have lost my materials. She drowned them all in the bathtub of the home.
She went to trial and some "expert" on the stand referred to an episode of the TV show Law and Order which as it turns out, never existed--the episode, I mean. The case was thrown out.
Recently, the second trial wrapped up. Yates got off basically, scott free.
You see, she claimed to have been possessed by Satan and that she killed her children to save them from Hell. While I do admit to believing in possession, I do not believe that in the act of multiple murders a person should be freed.
Yates was also believed to have suffered from post-pardum depression. I myself have never pregnant but I have been depressed. I went through the motions as a teen, saw a therapist and took the drugs. Though I never killed anyone. It never entered my mind! It never occurred to me to kill myself though I pleaded with my Maker to take me Home. (I'm much better now, and have neen for many, many years, thank you)
So what does all this mean? Go crazy, people. The end of the world is at hand. When you kill 5 innocent humans, didn't that once mean "serial killer"? No, not anymore. It means you were depressed.
What gets me all riled up is that the so called "experts" refer to Yates as being pshycotic in a past tense. Always. Anyone who could kill their own 5 kids would HAVE to be mentally unstable, regardless of depression or possession. We teach in our society that it's wrong to kill--that you'll go to jail for a very, very long time or maybe put to death if you commit such a crime.
I guess that was all thrown out the window...
If I ever get charged with a crime I'll be pleading PMS and temporary insanity. Would jury in the world would convict me?!
