Did you hear about this new amendment that legally allows the public burning of our nation's flag? It's true! Now instead of wasting your time driving all the way to the VFW to drop off your old tattered American flag to be destroyed in a cermonial and respectful way, you silly goose, why you could just burn it right on your front lawn!
A lot of people don't think this is a big deal because there's so much going on with our nation right now. Apparently, it was a big enough deal to the Powers that Be to pass such an amendment.
Ok, so a flag is merely some cotton of polyester and some color dye, right? It's not so much what it is, but what it stands for.
In the old wars, armies would have a flag bearer on each side. The flag bearer would proudly stand tall until he was shot down in battle. When the bearer fell, another took his place.
In Amercia, our flag stands for everything that our men and women have died for. People have died defending our rights and freedoms, as well as the freedoms of others. Doesn't that mean anything anymore?
Human lives were given for this piece of cotton or polyester. Fathers and sons and brother died. Thousands upon thousands. It brings tears to my eyes to think that that means absolutley nothing.
My dad served in the Navy in Vietnam, my Father-in-Law served 3 tours in Vietnam (even the 1st battle); I have countless relatives who are long gone that served in World War I and II.
What exactly were they fighting for?
If you feel the need to burn our rights in a public display, maybe you ought not to be here. If you are burning them because you are not from here and have grievences--simply leave.
When basic human rights can go up in a pillar of smoke and ash, we are not looking to a brighter future. We are, quite simply, doomed.
God bless our military men and women and their families, whether you believe in past or current causes or not. This is what freedom is...the ability to fight for it, the ability to display it proudly.
