Ha Ha! I got a free subscription to Rolling Stone Magazine (long story) and boy, and I glad it I didn't pay and money for it!
One article's headline a couple months ago was
MUSIC FANS WANT LOWER CD PRICES
With the sub title of
SURVEY SUGGESTS ILLEGAL DOWNLOADING MAY NOT BE THE ROCORD INDUSTRY'S MAIN THREAT
Well, duh.
This is news to anyone? I don't think it's necessarily "music fans", I think just about anyone who's ever bought a CD would like to see lower prices. I bought 2 movies at Wal-Mart for $1.99. It was Mr. Deeds and Men in Black 2. Not bad, huh?
So must I pay $18.99 for one good song and 9 crappy songs? You ever do that? The radio relentlessly plays a horrible song over and oever and over until you actually begin to (shutter) like it. You go out an buy the CD only to discover that it's the only song you like on the blasted thing.
All the CDs we own are like this. That's why I so excited when our computer came with a CD burner. I copied everything, weeded out the crap and put only the "good" songs onto the new burnt CDs.
I ended up with about 2 1/2 CDs of music.
See what I mean?
And while we're on the subject, I'd like to address this so-called "file sharing". For those of you who are out of the loop (or over 35) file sharing is like when we used to tape songs off the radio and make copies for our friends. Except now, people trade songs over the internet with each other and get sued for millions of dollars.
I've never done it because it took 2 weeks to figure out just how to blog. Apparently, I'm either too old, or too stupid to figure it out.
True story--
A 12 year old girl was sued by a major record company for several hundred thousand dollars for illegally downloading music from the internet. Her collection consisted of normal 12 year old girl's music collection, including the theme from the TV show, Full House.
Hmm? Is this prudent? Was file sharing considered illegal when she downloaded the music? Was there a law written by congress when she did this? And where, do you suppose, does a 12 year old child get the legal fees and settlement fees acrued?
From her mother who is a single parent! Ha ha!
Shawn was once stopped for speeding; for actually breaking a law that is written in our county's law books. It cost $200. This poor girl sends her mother to the poor house for downloading the theme to Full House!
Is this justice?
When you're lost out there and you're all alone...A light is waiting to carry you hooooome!
Everywhere you look! Bah da da bow dow!
Now you're all going to hate me for putting that song into your head.
Go download a good song to get it out of your head.
