Saved!

Ok, I promise I will not preach to you (at least not right now!) but I intend to keep this thing as funny and light hearted as possible. First, a little info.

My family has been quite religious and devout since I was a little kid. I didn't have a choice of going to church or not. I was quite excited about Jesus when I was young and sadly, I seemed to "grow out" of it. No, that's not it. I got side tracked by other things. I loved to get attention by getting into trouble and I have since apologized to my mother for being such a brat. (And i was, believe me!)

I am quite proud to say that on May 3rd, 2004 I became saved. I know that we're not supposed to show pride but I think for something like this, it's ok. I am proud to be able to say it. I'm proud that I have that freedom! Even if I might be locked up for it, I'd still be proud to say it! Yes, I accepted Jesus as my personal savior and I'd like to tell everyone I can.
Ok, with that said, I had an interesting (but friendly) argument with my dad. Several years ago we were watching an old rerun of Star Trek: The Next Generation. I asked Dad if he believed there were other worlds with other species and aliens and spaceships.

He didn't think so. Of course it's possible, he pondered, the universe is so huge. But he didn't really think there were people like us living out there.

Fast forward to a few months ago. I brought this up to my Pastor, David and my dad again. Of course Dad still feels the same way but I had some interesting questions for David.
Ok, let's just hypothetically suppose there is another world like ours on the far side of the universe.

Why? Well, why not? Ha, ha. No, what I'm thinking is this: God is a HUGE being. He made us i suppose because He was lonely, He wanted to be loved. Just like anyone else, right? makes sense to me. Ok, being as HUGE as He is, do you suppose the love a few million or billion would be enough?

Well suppose it wasn't and God decided to make a whole other world. But would the rules be the same? Wouldn't the Bible be different with different stories? Suppose these people didn't have a Bible? Suppose God talked to them the way He spoke to Moses. Would we see these creatures in Heaven? (Or Hell, for that matter)

All right, it seems silly, but it's something to think about.
But then I got another thought into my head. In a sermon once, David was talking about Jesus being crucified and that entailed. This was soon after the release of The Passion of Chirst, I believe. David went into the most horrible details. He explained that when a person is hung upon a cross, the body slumps and the lungs are basically squished. A man would have to push up with his legs to even get a breath or speak. If he continued to do so to stay alive, the guards would break the man's legs so he couldn't push up. He would eventually suffocate.
Of course Jesus never had any bones broken. He even lifted himself up to speak the words, "Father forgive them; they know not what they do."

Jesus was there with God from no beginning. Something David said caught my attention. Jesus was there for eons and eons knowing He would have to go through all that. "Could you imagine all that time, knowing you were going to go through that?" David asked. "All that time, knowing the pain to endure!"

With that said, I offered something to David on the other worlds discussion. Would Jesus want to do that again? I could imagine Him sitting up in Heaven and thinking, "Oh boy, I can't wait!" Of course, Jesus might not have the sarcastic tendencies that I have. But that's how I'd be! If there was another world, would Jesus be crucified again?

David told me that yes, it is quite possible there another world. God is after all so HUGE. Maybe we're not supposed to know about it if there is another world, David offered.
It is something to think about.

I think for now, though I'll worry about the planet I'm on. There are so many things I do not understand and probably won't until that day. That's what God intended so I'll let it be. Still, it's interesting to think of Star Wars or something like that. I think it would be cool.
Now that sets up a whole other topic on slavery and racism doesn't it!
